Wayne Smith – Super Smoker – Chartbound – 1985
Wayne's second album for Jammy's is not the all electronic set that most people were expecting, but then this album probably predates 'Under Me Sleng Teng' by quite a few months. Even so it's still a very interesting collection of songs, which relies instead on quality, well mixed, rhythm guitar guitar led roots rhythms. The type heard on 'Money Man Skank'. 'Trod It On' is particulary outstanding. Listen out also for the the title track and one called 'Crazy Eyes' which tells a very strange tale.
Wayne Smith – Sleng Teng – Greensleeves – 1986
'Sleng Teng' really really showed the potential of electronic rhythm within the music, but it still needs a lot of talent to make it sound good. And Wayne Smith has that, he's a gifted song- writer/singer – programmer. With the Super Power All behind him he goes through a selection of songs. 'Hard To Believe' is the best long song, while 'My Lord My God' mixes together a praise to Jah with an attack on technology and its use by the system. A worthy album to put the 'Sleng Teng' title to.
