Lloyd Charmers & The Hippy Boys - Trybute

Lloyd ‘Charmers’ Tyrell  came up and into the reggae era as both a singer with the The Charmers and as a musician and then as a producer. As a musican his keyboard work on the magnificent ‘Pop A Top’ from Andy Capp should mean some kind of special award. When people talk about changing the ‘Beat’ its usually just that talk… Lloyd did it!!!

This massive selection some 22 tracks takes us through a wild trip of most of his work in the reggae era. His work with The Hippy Boys produced tunes like ‘Dr No Go’  and ‘Cat Nip’ but there are so many great tunes here. Some of them go close to the genius of ‘Pop A Top’ which is not included - its produced by Andy Capp!!! 

‘African Zulu’ features Herman Chin Loy on er vocal if or sound fxs!  Its another very weird tune and like ‘5 to 5’ are very early indicators of where the music would be going in the years to come. 

This LP is packed with great ideas and rhythms - so typical of the reggae era. And also shows just how talented Lloyd Charmers is be it singer, producing or on the keys….
