Reggie Stepper – Kim Bo King – Pipper
In the wake of Shabba Ranks and Cutty Ranks along came Reggie Stepper with that rough and gruff sound much loved in the late eighties early nineties. And it works – Reggie didn't really have the lyrically power of Shabba or Cutty – but he's got a lot of energy and with the right rhythms – he can make his points – usually day to day stuff. Throw in some slackness and thats it. A lot of DJ have had a lot more to say and its not worked this though is a very enjoyable deejay set.
Reggie Stepper – Handcuff – Clappers
More or less the same approach hardcore dancehall rhythms – topped off with lyrics that concerned themselves with the everyday runnings of life in Jamaica. Handcuff the title track is all about married life – and is sexist to the max – but Reggie is not the type of deejays to change things – or even to make you think too much. Given time he could evolve into a Josey Wales type of character but there is only one Josey Wales – so its not easy to do as it first seems. But once again this a very good deejay album – it is what it is.
