Herman Chin Loy - Aquarius
Aquarius Vocals 2
Herman Chin Loy had one of the biggest hits in the
Commercial style of reggae with Bruce Ruffin’s ‘Rain’
but he was better known for his work with Augustus Pablo and early version and dub. Ten years later he opened up account in the dancehall style with these two albums. Both featuring a mix of new artists and veterans. The big hit that came out of these sessions is not even on the album - Ernest Wilson’s ‘Truth & Rights’ . Although the highlight of this set is Icho Candy’s magnificent ‘Them A Fight’.

More of the same, and in great style. You don’t really think about horns in connection with the dance hall style - but Herman Chin Loy did!!! Time and time again her pulls out a big horn arrangement to balance up those huge dancehall bass and drums. General Plough gets a turn on this set, a great singer who needed a break. The rest of the album belongs to Linval, George Nooks and Ernest Wilson plus some dubs.
