Mystic Revealers
Mystic Revealers - Rastaman In New York - Kariang - 7" 2002
The events of the 11th September 2001in NYC shook the world. Comment
was going to come from the singers and scribes of reggae music. But
before that could happen a sinster twist took place, rasta was somehow
rolled up and into the death cult of the Taliban. Anyone with a slight
working knowledge of Rasta and reggae can tell you that Rasta is about
life. Not death. Simple. So this fantastic tune based on Sting's
'Englishman In New York' neatly sums up that feeling - there are
endless great comments in this tune. And it should push the Mystic
Revelers well forward in the business as well. Produced by Kariang -
one of the finest reggae labels in the business.
Mystic Revealers - Young Revolutionaries - Sonic Sounds - 1992.
Bob Marley and The Wailers influence on reggae bands was always going
to be strong, but really and truly by now - young bands like the
Mystic Revealers should be looking for other ways to express
themselves musically. If Bob was still with us, recording today -
would he still sound like he did in the early eighties? My guess is
no. Having said that, this is not a bad album. All the band really
need to do is work out that it's impossible to try recreate Bob Marley
and The Wailers.
