Roger Steffens & Peter Simon
Roger Steffens & Peter Simon's - Reggae Scrapbook - Insight Editions.
"He's one of us" Proclaimed Reger Steffens in the ' Beat' not so long
along - Roger was talking about Bob Marley (of course) but what I'm
talking about is being a 'REGGAE' fan. He probably would have liked to
have done a 'Bob Marley' scrapbook - but he didn't, and the result is
incredible. I have never seen anything like this. Page after page of
amazing heavy duty full colour printing - plus stickers, envelopes,
flyers - all on the subject of reggae music. Plus a DVD which contains
some of the interviews the man as done over the course of the years.
So who is actually in the book, well here we go, the book includes -
The Skatalites, Jimmy Cliff, Joe Higgs, Toots, Beverley Kelso. Alton
Ellis, Bob Andy, Coxsone Dodd, Delroy Wilson, Ken Boothe, The
Techniques, Burning Spear, The Heptones, Jacob Miller, Johnny
Osbourne, Lee Perry, Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths, Bob Marley, Peter
Tosh, Steel Pulse, Joe 'Culture' Hill, Junior Reid, Dennis Brown,
Gregory Isaacs. Ninjaman, Lady Saw, Buju Banton and Morgan Heritage.
Plus a load more stuff!!! Normally I wouldn't bother with such a long
list, but this book is an investment its expensive - but its worth
every penny - but only if you have an interest in the above. And if
you don't you are not a reggae fan!!!
Dipping in and out of the book, the interviews with Coxsone Dodd and
Johnny Osbourne are excellent - Roger seems to find out what makes
them tick. His interview with Gregory Isaacs is a classic - included
is the part of it which tells the story of the story of 'The Little
Lad and The Crocodile'. Its the kind of story Gregory loves to tell,
but no one as relayed it better than Ras Rojah!! Photos play a huge
part in a book of this sort and Peter Simon's are some of the best
both in colour and b lack and white. The book is a total celebration
of the music, the music needs works of this sort - and its good to see
that its come from a true friend of the music!
