Derrick Harriott - Greatest Reggae Hits - Trojan - 1975.
When Derrick Harriott left the Jiving Juniors in the early to mid sixties to start producing for himself he changed the system in Jamaica. Others quickly followed him. From that time to the present, Derrick Harriott has been involved in virtually every aspect of the business all the while making great music. Most of the time he's happy enough recreating soul into reggae. The skill he puts into this process is truly outstanding. A simple version is never enough for him, something new and exciting is always added.
Derrick Harriott - Songs For Midnight Lovers - Trojan - 1976.
Since the early seventies there have been many colections of Derrick Harriott's material, this one though is probably the best. It's title alone suggests a theme and by more or less sticking to it, and carefully selecting music from only the Rock Steady/Reggae/Roots era's, a mood is created. All of Derrick's best love songs are here, sung in that wistful style of his, that is lightweight, but is still more rhythm and blues than soul. A voice of innocence and sincerity.
