Robert Ffrench – The Favourite – Black Solidarity – 1985
Yes Robert Ffrench, you've been a long time coming, but with this debut album for Black Solidarity the wait has really been worthwhile. Strictly speaking this is not Mr Ffrench's debut album. That honour goes to a dubious album that the late Lord Koos, once resident in New York issued a year or so before this set. 'The Favourite' was recorded at Music Mountain and Tuff Gong with an interesting set of musicians and gets the newly set up Black Solidarity label off to a great start, likewise Mr Ffrench.
Robert Ffrench – Mr Ffrench Showcase – Progressive – 1985
Quickly following 'The Favourite' is 'Mr French' a showcase set produced by Robert, along C.Synmoie. Who must be Carlton Synmoie who along with Leon Synmoie, produced Carlton Livingstone debut 'Soweta'. That album was a great one, and so is this. Recorded and mixed at Aquarius. A studio that is very under used. Again another interesting set of musicians. And some great songs and rhythms as well. 'Secret Lover' and 'Charmaine' being the most enjoyable cuts on a superb album.
