Roy Richards - Least We Forget - Selection
Roy Richards had the same kind of friendly rivalry with Charley Organiare on the harmonic that Tommy McCook and Roland Alphonso had with the sax.
What Charley did mainly for Prince Buster, Roy did for Studio One and Coxsone Dodd.
Roy was also a great singer - his big as a vocalist was 'Freedom Blues' a cover of a Little Richard tune.
When it comes to his harmonic tunes its got to be 'Fat Dog' that Roy did for Coxsone a version of 'Maga Dog' by Larry Marshall.
'Fat Dog' was given a dub mix before dub was even known! Released in 1972. It was a tune that just way ahead of its time.
A couple of years later right at the beginning of the dub boom. He recorded another great tune, this time for Clive Chin.
'Guns In The Ghetto ' was as wild as 'Fat Dog' and was also very popular. With its grim opening spoken intro. Like so many artists Roy needs a good album that covers both his singing and instrumentals. A great talent.
