When U Roy emerged quickly followed by Dennis Alcapone – the style of deejaying changed forever.
Yet one DJ Sir Harry took the deejaying style of Sir Lord Comic and Count Matchuki into the seventies in fine style.
King Stitt had hits at the same time as Comic and Matchuki, but did not really and truly take his style into seventies.
One possible explanation is that Sir Harry was the youngest of out of these four deejays – and so where the others just gave up and made way for the new style – Sir Harry just dug in!
The other odd thing is that whereas U Roy and Dennis had massive success riding rock steady rhythms – Sir Harry took his shouts and little rhymes and deejayed them over seventies rhythms.
Tunes like 'Apples To Apples', 'Musical Rights' are great examples of the man's styles.While 'Apollo 17' was a small hit for the man.
It might be deejaying in its rawest form, but if it brings a smile to your face – its working – “Apples to Apples – Plums To Plums....”
