JC Lodge - Selfish Lover - Greensleeves
Gussie Clarke's glossy ragga sound worked very well for Gregory
Isaacs, Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor - but when it came to JC
Lodge - it never seemed to work so well. The success of 'Telephone
Love' paved the way for this album, but like other albums from the
same time, Debbie Glasgow's and Audrey Hall - the rhythms tended to be
softer and so did the songs. At least this acts as a showcase for
Jamaican songwriters - but you can only but wonder where people like
JC would be today with better songs and stronger rhythms. Duets with
Tiger, Shabba work the best but its not same. Hopefully the women
singers in reggae today will be treated a bit better - but so far - it
don't look like its going to happen.
