Busty Brown - Selection
Busty Brown’s soulful vocals as been heard on a number of productions for a wide range of producers in the reggae era. Starting out with The Celestials in the Ska era. It was Lee Perry - who produced Busty the most. When he not looking for the strangest vocalists he could find - settled for the big soulful singer. Perry cut more than an albums worth of tunes with Busty but there is no album.
Most of the tunes that Busty recorded for Perry are love songs, that is to be expected. A voice like that is made for covering all the big soul hits of the days - or just great tunes in a reggae style. However from time to time tunes likes ‘Tribute To Don Drummond’ were created a heartfelt tribute to a great man, with Busty recalling session details of Don’s work!
Aside from his work with Perry, Busty made great records with Lloyd Tyrell/Lloyd Charmers and was also a member of The Chosen Few, The Messengers and vocal groups who worked Charmers as part of the Splash set up. His big soulful voice can be heard on ’Crowded City’
Released in the UK on Attack. Bunny Lee, Siddy Bucknor, and Clancy Eccles also worked with Busty. During the reggae era. Winston Lowe’s Tramp label also released Busty Brown productions around 1969/70.
