Admiral Tebbit - Try To Reach The Top
Admiral Tebbit's first new album for five years Try To Reach The Top' needed to be something special and it is. A 14 track set mix of Bobby Digital, Spragga Roots Tomlinson and Ras Calibud Stewart productions plus for the first time some self productions from the man himself. The songs themselves go from reality songs like 'World Gone Crazy' and 'Stop The Corruption' tocultural messages such 'To Jah I Pray' and 'Guide And Protect'. Also present as always are a selection of songs dealing with woman 'Materia Girl' being one of his best. Rhythms on the set are built by the Firehouse Crew, Steelie and Clevie Sly and Jazzwad. Don't miss this one. Admiral Tebbit at his very best.
Admiral Tebbit - Weeping And Mourning - Melodee - 1994
The good Admiral as recorded a vast amount of music for producer Bobby Digital over the years. And Bobby as released a number of albums from the man, but it took French label Melodee to finally get it right. A superb collection of tracks recorded from the early nineties up until about 1994.Every kind of reality you can think of is here. From tales of Babylon going back from time to the present. To relations between man and woman . You can't call Admiral Tebbit songs on this subject love songs. Far too complex and involved for that. And then is the reality of everyday living. Tebbit as got something to say about them all. Bobby Digital's role in all of this -is to just come up with the rhythms -it sounds simple but its not. First of all you have to find a rhythm that no one as cut a million times. And even if you do go for one of them. The real challenge is to freshen it up.You get most of the big rhythms here. They all have the spikey kind of sound that is between Jammys and Fatis. One of Admiral Tebbit's best sets -a great set/collections of singles. "
Admiral Tibbett - Come Into The Light - Live & Love - 1988
Although Admiral Tibbett is probably better know for his work with Winston Riley, it was King Jammy who was the first to release an LP by him, in the late autumn of 87. Its eight tracks are a good mix of reality, love songs and dance hall themes. The best track come in the form of the reality tune 'Serious Time', and that's no surprise because Tibbett along with Half Pint and a few others are taking a stand on certain issues. Production wise Jammy keeps it tight. A very good LP and a great debut."
"Admiral Tebbett - The Time Is Gonna Come - Greedy Puppy - 1988.
Of all the Admiral Tibbett's LP 'The Time Is Gonna Come' produced by Prince Huntly and on relased on his Greedy Puppy label has perhaps created the most interest. The reason for this stems from the fact that Prince Huntly has been in the business for a very long time. The title track ranks alongside 'Business' and 'Terrorist' as one of the Admiral's best songs. This a great debut LP for Prince Huntly's label, and for Admiral Tibbett it's another one, not to be missed."
Admiral Tibbett - War In A Babylon - RAS - 1988.
Always good to see new producers coming into the music and Ivor Broderick is a brand new name to me. His Admiral Tibbett LP is a six track showcase. Unlike the set, fro Jammy's this is a more traditional sounding set, as all the rhythm are non computerised. Lyrically straight away we go into a reality song 'Badness', with lyrics that recall the the anti war sentiments of another era. ""If you live by the gun, you will die by it."" Equally enjoyable is 'Promoters Call', that reconts how the Admiral saved a dance."
"
Admiral Tibbett -Excitement -Record Factory Bunny Gemini carried a whole heap of artists into his Record Factory during the nineties.
He ranked alongside Fatis and Richard Bell in terms of quality and quantity. He got a very good sound as well -in his Hagley Park Road in Kingston. All the good Admiral needs is rhythms like this, and he is away. They inspire him to new heights! From the eighties and into the nineties. The Admiral and artists like Scion Success stuck to the reality lyrics -not totally but you could always rely on them to have something to say.It was what made the seventies so interesting. The combination of a message and a great rhythm. 'Is It Beacuse', 'Babylon', 'Burn In Flames', 'Keep The Fire Burning' all contain that spirit. If all the injustice had gone from the world -they
would be just songs. Yet the wickedness as increased! So these songs are needed more than ever. When he does venture into the theme of love. They are stories sung with conviction. 'I'm Not A Fool For You' being a very good example.'Rude Boy' features Horace Andy and Linval Thompson who also probably recorded albums for Bunny Gemini during this time. This set though from the Admiral is magnificent. Its got everything you could want from a very conscious artist. "
"Admiral Tibbett - Leave People's Business - Technques - 1988.
It took two years for Winston Riley to follow up Admiral Tibbett's hit single 'Leave People's Business' with an LP Of the same name, but the wait had been more than worth it. For the LP is everything that it should be and a little bit more. Perhaps the only slight disappointment was finding that 'Terrorist' had been omitted, but then songs of equal strength and quality are to be found in its place. Listen out for 'Who Feel It Knows It', 'What Kind Of World' 'Freedom We Want' and 'See Me Enemy Deh'"
