Sir JJ - Reggae Power - Sir JJ
Carl Johnson and his Sir JJ is up there with the top reggae producers, but if you are new to the music - its very possible that you wouldn’t even know his name.
When he died (or was killed) he left a considerable catalogue of great music from the Rock Steady right into the early seventies Roots era.
In the Rock Steady era The Rulers were without doubt the biggest act on Sir JJ, some great music and some big hits.
By the time of the reggae era it was The Ethiopians, Roy Shirley, The Kingston Tops all of them feature here on this LP. Please note The UK release concentrated mainly on The Ethiopians.
Sir JJ not only had some great artists in his camp, he also had a totally different sound. The bass lines are some of the wildest ever to come out of Jamaica in any era!
Three massive hits, ‘Everything Crash’ ‘Hong Kong Flu’ and possibly even a pop hit in the form of ‘What A Fire’ all come from the Ethiopians. All great tunes, with strong rhythms.
And yet as this set indicates there was so much more. A producer in urgent need of a serious serious re-issue program!!
