Leo Graham
The Bleechers
The Bleechers with Leo Graham, Wesley Martin and one called Sammy plus Lee Perry were a perfect combination. Perry loved building wild rhythms and Leo could match those rhythms with his warbling voice that is soaked in the country style of Jamaica. Like so many artists who have worked with Scratch, no album from The Bleechers ever appeared
- produced by Perry or anyone else. Which is a shame, they caught the vibes of the Reggae era very well. Like the Pioneers and a few more from that era you didn’t really have to know what they were singing about - you know they were serious!!!
One of their first hits for Perry, was ‘Check Him Out’, a simple but very effective advert for the Upsetter shop that had just opened. Enough people have probably thought of making tunes like this, but the difference between them and Perry is that he actually did it!
A fantastic piece of self-promotion for him, done to perfection by The Bleechers who make the store sound like it was the most essential place to be, and back then for any Reggae fan it would have been!!! ‘Come Into My Parlour’ was the next big hit for the Bleechers and Lee Perry. One of those songs that combines innocence with a touch of the x factor. A set of lyrics that fires the imagination, with a rhythm to match. And it features a little organ melody that belongs somewhere else!!! "
