U Roy Junior/Froggie
The love of version in Jamaican Pop Culture - goes way beyond rhythms. Vocal styles and DJ styles - are part of the process. The popularity of U Roy in the early seventies was bound to empower others. Yet how anyone could mistake Dennis Alcapone or I Roy for U Roy is beyond me. However U Roy Junior not only sounded like U Roy - he more or less took his name!!! U Roy Junior's worked mainly for Rupie Edwards. A whole heap of tune
For the man, but no album. Great DJ cuts of Joe Higgs 'Burning Fire'/'Burning Fire Version' Yet I can't find no U Roy Junior version of 'My Conversation' Rupie's favourite rhythm. Very strange that. Yet there is a very nice DJ of Ken Parker's 'I Want To Be Loved' called 'Sharper Than A Razor'. U Roy Junior also did a good portion of work with Lloyd Daley, Keith Hudson, and Bunny Lee. With 'Aunt Kereba' produced by Lloyd Campbell being his biggest hit.
