King Jammy - Selection
By the Dance Hall era - Jammy was finally putting together his own camp.
Included were artists like Junior Reid, Johnny Osbourne,Wayne Smith, The Black Crucials, while in the deejay section he had man like Purpleman, and Papa Tullo.
All of these artists were making good music for Jammy's yet what Jammy still lacked even by 1983 was a hit.
That hit came with Half Pint, was not even really part of the Jammys camp!!
'Mr Landlord' from Half Pint took himself and Jammy to the top of the reggae charts.
Jammy was by this time using the High Times Band - and this tune - introduced that sound to the reggae world.
A lot cleaner and lighter than the Roots Radics sound it gave the dance hall era an alternative sound. That by then was much needed.
No matter how well liked the Radics were - it was always good to hear something a bit different!!!
After Half Pint, Jammy should have had another hit with Junior Reid 'Higgler Move' it wasn't to be. Yet both Jammys and Junior Reid went on to bigger and better things. Although not with each other!!!
