Bushman -Total Commitment -Greensleeves -1999
The success of Luciano sparked off a new wave of singers -who sound like Dennis Brown. By the mid nineties Luciano had found his own style -but the Dennis Brown vocal style was still a major source of inspiration. Step forward Bushman, a talented youth who had previously worked with Steely & Clevie. This set though for King Jammy was more even.Jammy had made great albums with Dennis Brown and Frankie Paul who still remains -the no 1 version of Dennis Brown, although the UK's Byron Otis could still out do him, if not in quantity but in quality. So Jammy knows out how to record someone like Bushman. So tunes are straight roots tunes -'Worries And Problems' 'Fire Run A Weak Heart'. These tunes are recorded with a mix of The Firehouse Crew, and The High Times crew -well its a track of the Half Pint 'One In A Million'. Other tracks feature musicians who form Ward 21 -Man like Suku and Rumblood. These tracks tend to be pure dancehall - using bangra rhythms which were very popular at the time.Bushman does a great job on all of them. Perhaps what was needed was a more radical production from Jammy to take this album up a notch. Having said that, Jammy knows his markets -and the Dennis Brown style is enduring. A solid work.
