Crucial Robbie - Crucial View - Ariwa -1990
The success of Macka B and his talking style of deejaying was bound to encourage others to try it out. Crucial Robbie is one such DJ, to find inspiration. A UK DJ from just outside London. My only problem with this style of deejaying is it’s assocaition with the Ariwa sound. Ariwa rhythms tend to be ‘Lover’s Rock’ or ‘Steppers’ based. It’s hard work for a deejay to get into this style. Yet this talking style seems to fit. So it’s no wonder that Robbie actually does very well on them. ‘Proud To Be Black’ was a hit for the man, but ‘Mandela Free’ and ‘Dem Green’ are just as good, if not better."
