Johnny Nash - The Best Of - CBS
If only more artists like Johnny Nash had turned up in Jamaica during the rock steady/reggae/ and roots eras.It wasn't just the sound of Jamaica that turned Johnny on, it was the vibes you can hear in nearly every tune on this set.The man is a great singer/songwriter, but always looking for songs that fitted into those reggae vibes. Dream Lover-Cupid'-and 'Wonderful World-fitted in. With solid reggae rhythms and Johnny's ever so pleasant vocal it was easier to hit than miss!!!Then of course there are the classics. 'I Can See Clearly Now- is so advanced - even today nearly 40 years after its release its sounds fresh. It features two bass lines, an electric and a synth bass, all surrounded by percussion. The song itself is so memorable and would give hope to the most desperate, but it's still rooted in reality.' There Are More Questions Than Answers' -is even better. A simple statement that most people find themselves asking more and more in their everyday living. His other massive hit is of course 'Stir It Up- a tune that embraces the folk sound of Jamaica, but is still so advanced in its production.
