Freedom Sounds
V/A - This is Roots Music - Freedom Sounds
The Freedom Sounds label always seemed more than just another record label. It was more like a family. Based as it was in Greenwich Town, it became home for a whole set of singers, who with the Soul Syndicate Band - one of Jamaica’s top bands, also from Greenwich Town - created some of the best Roots music of the late seventies. ‘This Is Roots Music’ comes from that era. Included are Earl Zero’s wonderful and upful ‘Get Happy’, Phillip Frazer’s cultural message ‘Come Ethiopians’ and possibly the label’s biggest hit, Ras Allah’s ‘Bucket Bottom’. Other Freedom Sounds artists included are George Fulwood, Sylvan White, Anthony Johnson and Clifton Campbell.
