Ansel Collins - The Magnificent -
Why it's taken so long for Ansel Collins to make an album like this is beyond me. Years and years in the business going back to the late sixties. And he's been present on so many big hits! These are tunes that have been in the top ten of the pop charts worldwide. It's true this is not his debut album - but as things stand - this is probably his best. What you get here is a collection of tunes which include 'Monkey Man' and a the title track which is of course 'Double Barrel' the big pop hit he had with Dave Barker aka Dave and Ansel Collins. The rest of the recuts include tunes like 'Number One' and 'Turn Me On' both originally from Gregory Isaacs - now it's very possible that Ansel played on these big reggae tunes from the late seventies/early eighties. If not they must be tunes he really likes - either way they are great works on a great album.
