David Isaacs - Selection
Considering that ‘A Place In The Sun’ a massive hit produced by Lee Perry is credited as establishing the then new Trojan album, it would have been nice if someone had thought a little bit more about David Isaacs.
David’s ever so sweet vocal graced more than enough Lee Perry productions from this era for a album. The Original Mr Isaacs gave Perry another angle to work on. It was a folksy kinda pop sound. Not the raw country rudeness that he liked to work at with Leo Graham and the Bleechers. But not far removed from it.
During the reggae era David did cover versions, good cover versions of tunes like ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’ and ’Stranger On The Shore’ Perry supplies just the right kind of rhythms as well, not too raw, but raw enough to know that he knew he wanted to buy these tunes. There as always been a good market for pop tunes done over in reggae.
Although the Isaacs/Perry combination was not all about covers. One of the most popular tunes from them came with ‘Good Father’ which is an excellent tune. It got everything, a good message that combines religion with a sense of society. Perry worked with David on and off right up until the mid-seventies. Some great work.
