Joe Mansano - Joe The Boss - Trojan - CD
After Dandy and Laurel Aitken, Joe Mansano comes in third in the UK Reggae era producers.
This magnificent two CD set from Trojan pulls together some 50 + tracks from the man and shows him tapping into the vibes of what producers like Andy Capp and Lee Perry were doing in Jamaica.
Western Themes, Horror Themes, Sex Themes they are all here! Plus reality themes. Most of the time - they are little more than chants and shouts, but they all make there point very well.
On the musical side of things its Rico and what sounds like the Rudies as the session band. Although on disc two, the bass sounds a bit deeper and rounder - and the name Cimarons pops up for the first time. So this could be some of there early recording sessions.
The bulk of the recording feature Joe The Boss, Then Rico & The Joe’s All Stars and then Pama Dice. Mixed in with all these tracks are people like Tito Simon, Ray Martell, Delroy Williams and Girlie.
The sound here is raw - musically - it is the spirit of 69, the true spirit of 69. For some it was this sound that turned them off of reggae, but for a lot of reggae fans it turned them on! Ye
