Joe White - Jah Jah Dub - Roosevelt
When the melodica took off in the early seventies, in no time at all other took up the instrument - Glen Brown, Bobby Kalphat, Peter Tosh, Lloyd Parks.
Yet after Pablo, it was Joe White who got the chance to make an album. Joe White was and is still well known as a singer - recording hits at Studio One like ‘My Guiding Star’ plus a good portion of tunes for Rupie Edwards and Sonia Pottinger.
However it was Harry J who gave Joe the chance to do his stuff on the melodica. Tunes likes ‘ Suzuki Shuffle’ and ‘Underworld Rock’ were also good sellers for Harry. The album would have been a good seller as well if people could have found it to buy.
Perhaps Harry was waiting for a good deal, eventually Trojan released what is really another part of this album, the remarkable ‘Ja Gan’ from Leslie Butler.
It would be good to see both albums released together on CD. They are two of the best examples of instrumental reggae from this era.
