Symarip - Skinhead Moonstomp - Trojan
Symarip were The Pyramids spelt backwards what they represented in reggae music during the reggae era was a glimpse of things to come.
Where music and fashion combine to produce
something that is neither, The Two Tone movement that appeared first in the UK and then went around around the world owes everything to this band.
Unlike the The TwoTone Bands though Symarip had a firm grasp of what reggae music is all about. Its not reggae music for people who don’t like reggae. Its reggae music with a touch of this.
that and the other!
This could be the fantastic Jimi Hendrix style guitar playing on ‘Skinhead Moonstomp’ there big hit. Whoever played on that should be given some kind of award, its very hard to mix rock with reggae - but he pulled it off in fine style. In places the tunes could be a dub, it’s that wild!
The concept of ‘That’ could be ‘Geronimo’ its another tune with a big touch of ‘Pop A Top’ in its style, and even goes into a bit of a skank.
The other is something like ‘Skinhead Girl’ it’s got the kind of lyrics - the Two Tone bands lap up, but without any kind of pretension. Nothing special, just a simple song about a Skinhead Girl with a great rhythm!
