Skin Flesh & Bones – Fighting Dub – Love
Dicky Wong's Tit For Tat's label introduced the world to the Skin Flesh & Bones sound.
He used them in his club and on his massive 1974 hit from Al Brown 'Here I Am Baby'
Yet it was Lloyd Campbell who went on to employ the band for a whole series of tunes – with the likes of The Itals, Ronnie Davis, David Isaacs, and Jimmy London.
Around this time – this set appeared – a dub album yes – but with the unique sound of Skin Flesh and Bones on all tracks.
Recorded at Randy's and mixed at Joe Gibbs by Errol Thompson – the album highlights the remarkable talent of Sly Dunbar more than anyone else.
The 'Bump' sound had come into the disco scene – in the U.S. Sly took it – (in much the same way that Santa did with the 'Flying Cymbal') and turned it into a reggae sound.
This bump or thump was used again by Sly twenty years later for producer Fatis – creating the Xterminator sound. Lloyd Campbell's Spiderman label got there first!!!
Lloyd never got around to putting all his early to mid-seventies productions together – it would be nice to have a vocal set to this album because it would be a tribute to a great band, and a great sound!
