Jackie 'Wilfred' Edwards
Jackie may not have made made many Ska records - but he was a major foundation artist a true creator.
Chris Blackwell was his main producer during this era occasionally he would do a tune for Leslie Kong. Most of them gained UK release on Starlight, Island and then Fontana. Even Aladdin released a few.
For the most part they were ballads - but what Jackie brought to them was a touch of Jamaica. His voice had a smoothness that was a real throwback to the era of Jazz and Swing. His biggest hit was 'Keep On Running' which he did twice once for Ronnie Nasralla in 1966 and then again for Leslie Kong. Jackie never had a hit with the song, but the Spencer Davis Group did - a major pop hit.
