Red Rat – Oh No…It’s Red Rat – Greensleeves – 1997
Deejay styles at times in reggae are sometimes of a multitude. Which is my preference. Listening to one style no matter how good it is can get very boring. If someone is doing well, there will be more than enough people ready to copy him. Then someone like Red Rat comes along, and everything changes. He’s not a singjay inspired deejay. It’s difficult to work out what inspired him, but inspired he is. His trademark is the “Oh No.” but that would not be enough to sustain a whole album. Included here are protests about homelessness – ‘Nuh Live Nuh Weh’, scandalmongers ‘Rumours’, and the truly classic ‘Charlene’ that is beyond description. Produced mainly by Danny Brownie in fine style.
