Al T Joe
Jamaican's very own Fats Domino, worked with Coxsone, Lindon Pottinger, Bunny Lee and The Wasp label - and also produced a number of great tunes for himself. His big hit came in the 'Reggae' era in the late sixties with a cover of a pop tune 'Hitching A Ride'.
His career started back in the early sixties - 1962 with his first tune for Lindon Pottinger's Gay Disc label - 'I'm On My Own'. Other notable tunes includes Economy Heatwave' in 1972 for Coxsone Dodd.Back in the Ska era - his tunes were not only inspired by Fats Domino the production side The rhythms also leaned towards Rock and Roll, or perhaps that should be Rock and Ska! One of his tunes 'Oh What A Price' for Bunny Lee features the heavy rhythm style of Now Gen in fine style
Al T Joe is the very real connection between New Orleans music and Reggae. And it is a great one!!!
