Winston Francis - Mr Fix It & California Dreaming - Studio One
Two massive hits for Coxsone during the reggae era made sure that said producer had every reason to
not only produce these albums with Winston, but acutally release them!
Winston’s voice as got that crying style in it that as been popular for a long time in all kinds of black
music.
Its used to great affect time and time again here. Sometimes the choice of songs kinda lets him down.
For instance ‘Too Experienced’ this cut is just a little fast to really work.
But the big hits really are great covers. ‘Mr Fix It’ and ‘California Dreaming’ are great tunes to do over.
The strangest cover is ‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix’ . A slow tune given the oddest of reggae rhythms.
Its almost a template for Junior Byles ‘Curleylocks’.
Yet for the lovers of the reggae era rhythm, crying vocals and strong songs, this album is a must. Well
produced reggae music that is totally timeless.
