Junior Reid - Boom Shaka A Lack - Greensleeves - 1984
Before forming the Voice Of Progress a few years ago, Junior Reid had already made records for Hugh Mundell. Later he would join Black Uhuru. 'Boom Shack A Lack' produced by Prince Jammy, just before he went digital, represents one of his earlier sets that first built his reputation. Apart from the funky 'False Rumours'. You get a solid roots album, recorded with The High Times Band. With the best track being the title tracks. The rest of the album has outstanding synth work as well as many great songs.
Junior Reid - Original Foreign Mind - Black Roots - 1985
The 'Original Foreign Mind' was the tune that broke Junior. Using the fast style techniques of the MC's/DJ's he tells us all about Jamaica in the 80's. This song is a thoughtful excursion into the mentality or the lack of consciousness of what seems like a large number of people these days. It sparked off a number of versions, all on the same theme. Produced by Junior and Sugar Minott, this album carries on the good work. Other great tracks include 'Junior's Nature' and 'If You Would Be Mine'.
