Brent Dowe
Brent Dowe - Lead singer of one of reggae's greatest harmony trio's The
Melodians, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on the 28 January
2006. It seems that Dowe, who appeared to be in good health, fell ill
at his Hughenden, St. Andrew, home yesterday. His hits with the
Melodians include Rivers of Babylon, the adaptation of a Psalm which
was included on the soundtrack of the 1972 film Harder They Come.
Brent also sang lead on the songs Little Nut Tree, Swing And Dine and
You Have Caught Me. His solo career included two albums one for Sonia
Pottinger - 'Build Me Up' released on Trojan in the UK, and the
excllent 'What Love Can Do' produced by Brent and released on his own
Jah B label in 1981.
Brent Dowe - What Love Can Do - Jah B - 1983
Some four years after Brent in the company of producer Prince Tony
tells me about an he going to do with said producer, comes an album
produced by Brent himself. A selection of songs written by a man who
along with Tony Brevett and one T.McNaughton formed one of the best
vocal groups of the rock steady and reggae era's, The Melodians. This
is not his debut album, but it's his best. Recorded and mixed at Tuff
Gong. It's an album of reality and love songs. The reality songs I
love. The love songs are something else.
