Glen is well known to fans of The Upsetters as the keyboard player with that kinky sound, who played on so many hits.
Dig a little bit deeper and you find that playing keyboards was just one skilled that he had. He is a great singer.
Working with Bunny Lee in the rock steady era he cut a number of great tunes that eventually was released as the album ‘Wonder Thirst’.
Yet his singing career did not stop at the rock steady era - he went on working with a number of producers and setting up his own label Capo.
In the reggae era as a vocalist he cut great tunes for Leslie Kong ‘Hold Him Joe’ which is in style of The Pioneers. His voice though is very soulful at one time he teamed up with Dave Barker as Glen and Dave,
Its that soul style that is the most remarkable ‘Never Had A Dream’ for Lee Perry is a truly fantastic tune with Glen’s vocal floating just above a really tough Perry rhythm.
His keyboard work is of course outstanding ‘Power Cut’ for Bunny being very special. ‘Echo’ for Joe Gibbs is almost dub. And it was probably tunes like this brought him to the attention of Herman Chin Loy who renamed him Augustus Pablo. Then Herman gave the name to Horace Swaby…….
