Carey & Lloyd
Carey ‘Wild Man’ Johnson and Lloyd Young
were probably the first deejay duo. You can
only say probably because you have Dennis
Alcapone and Lizzie. And although both
duos were successful, when it comes to
combination deejaying Carey and Lloyd had
the edge.
Most people came across them on ‘Come
Down’ a deejay version of ‘Come Down’
from The Maytals. It represents the only
deejay cut of a Maytals tune!!! Think about
that.. All the big hits that the Maytals had
over the years and this is the only deejay
version of one of their tunes.
Another remarkable tune from the duo was
‘Down Side Up’, the deejay cut of Joe Higgs
‘The World Is Upside Down’. Once again it
may be the only deejay cut of a Joe Higgs
tune. Also included in this fantastic selection
are tunes from the deejays alone. Lloyd
Young ‘Butter And Bread’ and Carey
Johnson’s ‘Born A Winner’ is deejaying at its
very best!
On their own or in combination these two
could ride a rhythm - and make it jump! They
had a style and fashion all of their own. It
was appreciated at the time - hopefully it will
be appreciated now .
