Anthony Red Rose - Family Man - VP - 1994
Anthony Red Rose and Wayne Smith more or less sparked off the ragga revolution With 'Tempo' and 'Sleng Teng'. Yet despite the incredible success of both tunes - neither artist was ever really able to put together a run that would put them both in the top ten of reggae artists. That takes time. Another way is a great album. Despite the disdain shown towards albums in some quarters - A very good album can go a long way in help building up an artist's career. Red Rose's debut album for King Tubby's didn't work. But this one released in 1994 - is something special. Some will claim it's just a collection of singles - to that I say 'Who cares'!! The most important thing about it - is that it represents very well all what the artist is about. That it took ten years to come out after 'Tempo' is just a matter of time. 'Tempo' is thankfully on this album - a great reggae tune from any era!!!
