On February 19th 1911, the joint determination of Albert Pinchon, a state primary school teacher, and of Raymond Guillotin, an orchestra leader, enabled the creation of a musical society. Its aim was to bring together and unite around the school the various good intentions of the villagers.
The musical director extolled the charms and moral virtues of his art and the new society was named ‘The Friendly Lyre of Fontaine-le-Bourg’ (La Lyre Amicale de Fontaine-le-Bourg) It replaced the former group of musicians led by Henri Guillotin. The ‘Lyre’ accompanies ceremonies and events throughout the year, in all seasons and its longevity is marked by the fervour and quality of its musicians. Other neighbouring musical associations and fanfares have gradually disappeared but this one has lasted and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011.
Today it is the oldest association in Fontaine-le-Bourg.
