The war memorial

On June 30th 1919 the committee for a monument dedicated to the men who died for the motherland in the first world war was created in Clères. A subscription raised the sum of 6275 francs.

In July 1920 Mr. Delacour donated to the municipality the land necessary for the construction of the monument. The inauguration on April 10th 1921 gave rise to a moving ceremony. On November 30th 1921 a German cannon, offered to the town as a war trophy, was added to the monument. The cannon disappeared during the Second World War with no trace.
