The Notre Dame de Liesse Chapel
Jacques Frontin Squire, Advisor to the King, Auditor of the Chamber of Auditors of Normandy, Sieur du Tôt, animated by a great devotion, had this chapel built on the southern flank of the church, between choir and nave, to testify before posterity.
The construction was completed in August 1634 and he provided it with furniture and objects dedicated and necessary for worship, as well as 50 tournois pounds for annuity to be taken from the property he owned in his estate of Hauteville, Les Authieux in order to serve as wages to the chaplain appointed by him.
The chaplain had to celebrate three low masses a week, five sung masses a year and a large requiem mass on the anniversary of Jacques Frontin's death.
He died on February 12, 1667 in the Parish of St. Godard of Rouen, and was buried on February 14, 1667, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Liesse in Authieux-Ratiéville.
His body still rests there and one can read the epitaph:
“ Whoever thou art who reads these lines
Thy body will finally rot
Like the one of this very founder
Pray God he may forgive his crimes
And if thou doth, be sure after thy death
People will pray thy Creator for thyself. »
In his honour a brotherhood was founded in 1635.
