For the Cake:
200g all-purpose flour
200g granulated sugar
3 large eggs
120g unsalted butter, softened
2 large oranges (zest and juice)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
100ml whole milk
1 tablespoon orange blossom water (optional)
For the Glaze:
150g powdered sugar
Juice of 1 orange
Note: For a gluten-free version, consider using a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend that works well in baking.
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
Add Eggs and Flavorings: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the zest and juice of the two oranges and the vanilla extract until fully combined.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually fold this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.
Add Milk and Optional Ingredients: Stir in the whole milk and, if using, the orange blossom water. Mix until the batter is smooth and well blended.
Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Prepare the Glaze: While the cake is baking, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice in a small bowl until smooth.
Glaze the Cake: Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, drizzle the orange glaze over the top of the cake.
