These Delicious Pork Belly Slices are a quick and flavorful solution to satisfy your pork cravings without the long cooking time. Thinly sliced for fast cooking and maximum tenderness, the pork simmers in a simple sauce of soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, and ginger—no marinating required. A brief pan-fry renders the fat, followed by a slow simmer that infuses the meat with rich flavor and finishes with a caramelized glaze. Whether tucked into sandwiches, layered in burgers, or served over rice or pasta, this adaptable dish brings savory satisfaction in under an hour.
500 g pork belly, sliced about 0.5 cm thick
1 tbsp oil
1.5 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp rice wine
1 tsp sugar
3–4 slices of ginger
1.5 cups water (add more if it evaporates too quickly)
Pan-fry the pork belly slices over medium heat in oil until they’re slightly golden, helping render out excess fat.
Simmer: Add soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, ginger, and water. Cover the pan and let it simmer over low to medium heat for 20 to 50 minutes, depending on how tender you want the meat. Add water as needed if the sauce reduces too much.
Caramelize: Increase to high heat, uncover, and let the liquid evaporate and thicken into a glossy glaze. Turn the slices to coat them evenly.
