Melopita is a traditional Greek honey pie, especially popular on the island of Sifnos. This crustless dessert combines the richness of ricotta cheese with the sweetness of honey, resulting in a velvety, custard-like texture. It's a simple yet elegant treat that showcases the flavors of Greece.
600 grams fresh ricotta cheese
100 ml honey
3 large eggs
1 tbsp cornstarch (corn flour)
1 tbsp vanilla extract
For drizzling:
60 ml honey
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 20cm (8-inch) springform baking pan.
Prepare Filling: In a large bowl, whisk together the ricotta cheese, honey, eggs, cornstarch, and vanilla extract until smooth and free of lumps.
Bake: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top has browned and the center is set.
Cool: Allow the pie to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then remove and let it cool completely.
Serve: Once cooled, drizzle with additional honey and dust with ground cinnamon before serving.
