This French Onion Meatloaf combines the savory flavors of French onion soup with the hearty texture of meatloaf. It's a delicious twist on a classic comfort food, perfect for a cozy family dinner.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup beef broth
1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
Add garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper to the skillet with the onions. Cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
Deglaze the skillet with beef broth and white wine (if using), scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the liquid has reduced. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the onion mixture. Mix until well combined.
Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan or shape into a loaf on a baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
Serve slices of meatloaf topped with the remaining onion mixture. Enjoy!
