Trying to fit Evolution with the Bible

Version 2

By Mark Farquharson

Trying to fit Evolution account with Bible account.

There are loads of ways people try to get the bible account to fit with the theory of evolution, but do they work?

Lets look at this idea that the days in the creation story are much longer than normal 24 hour days.

People claim they can represent anywhere from 1000 years to 1000,000 years to 1000 million years….. But do any of these help us fit the two together…

Lets now turn to Genesis 1:

1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now, the earth, had become waste and wild, and darkness, was on the face of the roaring deep,—but, the Spirit of God, was brooding on the face of the waters,

3 And God said—Light, be, And light was. 4 And God saw the light, that it was, good, and God divided the light, from the, darkness; 5 and God called the light, day, but the darkness, called he, night. So it was evening—and it was morning, one day.

6 And God said, Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it be a means of dividing, between waters and waters, 7 And God made the expanse, and it divided between the waters that were under the expanse and the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. 8 And God called the expanse, heavens. So it was evening—and it was morning, a, second day. REB

The expanse here is placed between the waters that are on the earth. This expanse is called heavens. As we should see later, this expanse is more than just the sky, but the creation of the universe, space itself. Stars are not created at this point.

This clear goes against the teaching of the big bang that has creation of the stars first. Earth was actually created first. Lets continue:

Genesis 1:9 And God said—Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together, into one place, and let the dry—ground appear. And it was so. 10 And God called, the dry-ground, land, but the gathering together of the waters, called he seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 And God said—Let the land put-forth vegetation-herb yielding seed, fruit-tree, bearing fruit, after its kind, whose seed is within it on the land. And it was so, 12 And the land brought-forth vegetation—herb yielding seed after its kind, and tree bearing fruit, whose seed is within it, after its kind, And God saw that it was good. 13 So it was evening—and it was morning, a third day. REB

Lets now see when the scriptures say the stars were made.

14 And God said—Let there be luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to divide between the day and the night,—and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years; 15 yea let them be for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to give light on the earth. And it was so. 16 And God made the two great luminaries,—the greater luminary to rule the day, and the lesser luminary to rule the night, also the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens,—to give light on the earth; 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So it was evening—and it was morning, a fourth day. REB

Here the stars are placed in the expanse that was created on day two, called heavens. The stars could not have been made before day two as the expanse did not exist before that.

What was that? God made stars on day four? After he had made the Earth and the Plants! How does that fit with the big bang model?

Clearly there is no way that this fits with the big bang model…. Maybe we should help things along and put stars on day one? But then there would be nothing on day four… maybe we should make day four in to day one, and move day three to day four and so on…? Or is the bible correct….

However maybe the Evolution of Animals fits with the Evolution model….Well at lest animals have not shown up before plants….

20 And God said—Let the waters swarm with an abundance of living soul, and, birds, shall fly over the earth, over the face of the expanse of the heavens. 21 And God created the great sea-monsters,—and every living soul that moveth— with which the waters swarmed after their kind and every winged bird—after its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying,—Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let, the birds, multiply in the land. 23 So it was evening—and it was morning, a fifth day. REB

And now on to day six…..

24 And God said—Let the land, bring forth, living soul, after its kind, tame-beast and creeping thing and wild-beast, of the land, after its kind. And it was so. 25 And God made the wild-beast of the land after its kind, and the tame-beast after its kind, and every creeping thing of the ground, after its kind. And God saw that it was good. REB

Hold on what was that, I think there is something wrong there…. According to Evolution, birds evolved from land based animals… When does God create land based animals? Day six, when does he create birds? Day five…… God could have created them on the same day, why did he do it the day before?

So here is our next problem, maybe we should solve it by moving birds to day seven, so that they are after land based animals… Hold on did not God rest on day seven? Yes he did… Maybe move birds to day six and land based animals to day five… Hold on did not land based animals come from the sea? Should we then move these to day four… and note we have already move those pesky stars…from day four… plants are there now, which were move from day three… wait plants are there, should not they come first? Lets move them back to day three…

How many things have we had to move around? It’s beginning to look like a merry-go-round….

Another thing is that the Bible shows God creating man from the dust of the ground, it does not say, man come from another animal.

Gen 2:7 So then Yahweh God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed in his nostrils the breath of life—and man became a living soul.

And Eve was made out of part of Adam.....

Maybe we should also change this? To…: God formed man from Ape?…. It clearly does not say that….!!!!!

next problem, is that there was no death before Adam Sinned. So that would mean no animals died along the way. And no halve ape/humans died along the way ether

Also this is made clear by the work of Christ, as in that All die in Adam, and All are made alive in Christ....

When is a day, longer than a day? Does it apply here?

In the bible there are places where a day, can be longer than a day, like in prophecy, of course in events like the story of the flood a day equals a day, …In some prophecies A day can equal a year, and in some a day can equal a day…. Also a day can equal 1000 years… However it never says anywhere in the Genesis account that day should equal some other amount…. The other thing is that, this is not prophecy, it is a historical account of the events, in a historical account day always equals day.

Lets now look in the bible to see if creation is referred to in some other book, to see if this gives an idea..:

I refer to Exodus: 20:

9 Six days, shalt thou labour, and do all thy work; 10 but, the seventh day, is a sabbath unto Yahweh thy God,—thou shalt do no work, thou nor thy son nor thy daughter nor thy servant, nor thy handmaid, nor thy beast, nor thy sojourner who is within thy gates, 11 For, in six days, did Yahweh make the heavens and the earth, and the sea—and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day,—for this cause, Yahweh blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it. REB

How long did the Lord want people to work?, was it six actual days? Or was it longer… maybe 600 million years? Clearly not, people did not live that long…. Maybe 6 million years… again no… 6000 years? No, no one live that long not even in the days before the flood…

It clear indicates that it was six days.....The Lord done six days, they were to do six days…

The bible clearly tells us how long the day was:

Gen 1:5 and God called the light, day, but the darkness, called he, night. So it was evening—and it was morning, one day. REB

Each of the six work days end with the words “evening” and “morning.” After the work was done during the day period, there was evening, then the day ended when the morning of the next day came. For evening ends when morning comes. Scriptural days start in the morning. I will not go into explanation of the start of the day here.

So is it a: Nice story or is it True?
