The nationwide violent protests will mark the beginning of the much awaited end of the People's Republic. I'm excited about that. The evil Peking government is timidly trying to calm down the angry would-be "anti-Jap" mobs, but it will be a matter of time that those looters will find the real enemy in Peking's politburo and the rest will be history in the making in a form of another far-reaching revolution. Let us then chant with the oppressed peoples, "Tibet independence! Free Uyghur, Yunnan, South Mongolia and Manchuria! Hurray!"

During the second world the Japanese army treated the Chinese badly, in fact a lot worst than the Nazis. They capture any males from villages and treat them as slaves building roads and bridges and carry munitions, if one tried to escape the whole group will be shot on the spot. That was in 1940's.

Tim

Xapaga: You must try staying off that opium. Otherwise we'll have to send some more gunboats out! Rendezvous: So what?

Sleepy-Jazz

yes, in the 1940s - 70 years ago... how many of those people are still alive today? The Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi issued a public apology to China when he was in power. Several other Japanese senior members of government in the past have offered apologies for the behaviour of their ancestors. Japan has also paid China billions in compensation and aid.

If I was Japan, I would just pull everything out of China and stop the aid that they STILL pay to China. Set up in the Philippines instead where they would be more appreciated.

Incidently, the Senkaku islands have NEVER belonged to China. Before Satsuma invaded the Ryuukyuu kingdom in the early 17th century and set up a system of semi-autonomous rule, the Senkaku islands were part of the Ryuukyuu kingdom administered through Okinawa. The kingdom just so happened to pay a tribute in order to trade with China (as did the Netherlands and every other country in the Far East seeking to trade with China including Japan). China is seeking to use this trade tribute as an excuse to claim sovereignty by claiming it administered the islands (including Okinawa) through taxation - the same excuse they used to invade Tibet - so Portugal and the Netherlands better watch out because they might be next in the future - can you see just how stup1d China's claim is. Meanwhile Japan has been actually collecting proper taxes (not trade tariffs) from the Ryuukyuu islands for over 400 years. When Japan entered the modern era and opened up to the world in 1868, they officially annexed Hokkaido, Takeshima, and Okinawa in 1872 as a means of demonstrating their borders to stop European encroachment (especially from Russia). In the past these 3 areas were administered by Daimyo (province Lords) rather than by central government. The move was to consolidate rule according to modern international standards.

The annexation of the islands was well before the first Sino-Japanese war that led to Taiwan and the Penghu islands being annexed (a completely different set of islands). Since then Takeshima has been lost to the Koreans who have officially settled the islands and have a military base there. It is unlikely that despite their claims that Japan will be able to re-establish sovereignty over Takeshima. Instead they will concentrate their efforts in preventing another invasion of their official pre-war with anyone in the modern era, territory. China is bang out of order - just another expansionist imperial power.

The funny thing is that China and Japan are actually important trade partners. China would lose more as a result of breaking off relations than Japan. Most of the goods made in China that Japan buys are made by Japanese companies. Japan is not as dependent on China as most of Europe and America have become. The one good thing that might come out of all this... people in China might stop eating sushi and thus help fish stocks in the region.

Mark

"Oppressed", my foot. Left to their own they would be eating roots and rats.

Chuk

Xapaga, Chinese government is not evil. You are evil. You, as most Japanese hope China will break up into small countries. This will never happen. It may happen in your dream. Chinese never said Japanese government is evil or even taught their citizens other race are animals. Japan did. The elected Tokyo governor also say Chinese are animals.

The islands were annexed with Taiwan, Korea, and LiuQiu Islands by Japan in 1895. After Japan surrendered in 1945, Korea went independent. Taiwan and DiaoYu island were given back to China. Chinese fishermen fish in the area. In 1972, USA the real victor, suddenly unilaterally announced she gave the islands to Japan. Ever since Japan send patrol vessels there to chase away Chinese fishermen. When China and Japan establish diplomatic relation, the leaders agreed to set the dispute aside. This time Japan government is so desperate and stir things up instead of setting the dispute aside. this is the

cause of the trouble.

What the Japs in their arrogance cannot understand is the deep antipathy and anger felt by many Chinese (and other Asiatics) against them because of the atrocities they committed. We are not talking about "normal" military killings, but sadistic and barbaric slaughter of civilians by such methods as beheading, stabbing of women through their private parts, slicing open the wombs of pregnant women, spearing of babies with bayonets after they have been tossed up in the air (played out as a sport), the infamous water torture often accompanied by brutal stamping of the inflated person's stomach, gouging out of eyes and tongue cutting., etc. Most of the Hollywood portrayal of gory deaths and torture owe their vividness to the details gleaned from real deaths which happened during the Japanese invasion of Asia.

Yet the Japs never repented or expressed any sorrow over their treatment of fellow-Asiatics. Rather they deny it all, very much like the Holocaust deniers. They did express remorse over killing of westerners when pressed by the Allies. Many westerners did not experience many of the excesses of the Jap troops and regard Tenko as the worst the Japs meted out. But compared with what the Asians suffered, Tenko was like a picnic. Many of the comments here reflectthis woeful ignorance and lack of education.

Xapaga

Yes, indeed BBC Tenko was like a picnic when one compares it with the Chinese atrocities against the Japanese civilians back in July 1937. Read the last 2 paragraphs of the entry "Tungchow Mutiny" in Wikipedia if you are so ignorant and want educating. Today's situation in Chinese cities is the recurrence of history three quarters of a century ago.

In addition to Japanese military personnel, some 260 civilians living in Tōngzhōu in accordance with the Boxer Protocol of 1901 were killed in the uprising (predominantly Japanese including the police force and some ethnic Koreans). According to contemporary sources, the majority of women were raped and brutally massacred. Female bodies were found lying on the floor with brooms inserted in their violated genitals; several severed heads of café waitresses were found lining up on a café table in a manner of atrocity exhibition; a woman had her head chopped with a machete, after which the Chinese perpetrator raped the body in a necrophiliac act; the intestines was savagely taken out of the body; a child was found dead with a barbed wire nose ring pierced in the nostrils. Only around 60 Japanese civilians survived and they provided both journalists and later historians with firsthand witness accounts. To complete their orgy, the Chinese set fire and destroyed much of the city.

The massacre shocked the Japanese public and anti-Chinese sentiments were further intensified in Japan. The popular Japanese slogan in those days was "暴戻支那膺懲(Bōrei Shina Yōchō)" or its shorter version "暴支膺懲(Bōshi Yōchō)", both of which mean "To punish China the outrageous". The Japanese military adventurers stationed in China used this bloody incident to justify further military intervention under the pretext of protecting Japanese lives and properties in and around Beijing. After World War II the Japanese defence team at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East (the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal) submitted the official statement made in 1937 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan as the inevitable cause of the Sino-Japanese conflicts, but presiding judge Sir William Webb KBE rejected it as evidence.

On Tuesday 7th September 2010 a Chinese "trawler" vessel carrying Maoist agents disguised as "innocent fishermen" invaded the Japanese waters near the Pinnacle Islands (Senkaku Islands). Japan's Coast Guards tried to push it back peacefully, but the Chinese invaders just ignored and deliberately and with all their might crashed their boat against the Japanese authorities, who promptly arrested the Maoists; but that was exactly what the bullies in Peking wanted as their typical knavish tricks. They feared impoverished insurgents revolting within China so much that they needed an obvious enemy without, i.e. Japan with its militaristic past but more than 60 years of peace and prosperity thereafter. Neither Peking nor Chinese Taipei initially showed any interest whatsoever in those desolate, "disputed" islands before 1971, when natural gas and other materials were discovered.

Chuk

Xapaga, you are very misinformed or you are telling lies. Japan annexed the islands in 1895 after attacked China. Japan surrendered in WWII, the islands were to be given back to China along with Taiwan. In 1971, USA unilaterally gave the islands to Japan. The same thing happen in 1919. After Germany lost the war in WWI, the German occupied land in China was not given back to China. China sent 10,000 men to Euripe to help the Allies. The German occupied land was given to Japan which has not fight in WWI. China is not going to swallow this again. If you Japanese think the same thing can happen again, you are wrong.

Chinese all over the world protested in 1972 as well. Chinese students were beaten by a Britsh inspector in Victoria Park in Hiong Kong.

Xapaga

Chuk the Chxxk, it's you who are totally misinformed and brainwashed by the dirty Maoist con men in Peking. Firstly, Japan fought against German and Austro-Hungarian empires in Tsingtao (Qingdao) and in the Mediterranean around Malta at the request of the British during the First World War. Yes, Japan was able to take the German concession of Tsingtao following the siege, but she duly handed it back to Kuomintang government after the war (not the Second but the First). I won't be surprised, though, if you are actually a Maoist agent trying to deceive the world.

Chuk

The islands were annexed by Japan in 1895 after attacking China. Japan surrendered in WWII and the lands should have been returned back to China. But USA, the real victor in WWII gave the islands unilaterally to Japan in 1971 and Chinese demonstration erupted all over the world in 1972. The same thing happened in 1919 to China. German occupied land in China was given to Japan instead of back to China. China is not going to swallow this any more. If our Communist Party leaders lead us into war and USA join in. It will be worse than Vietnam to USA. Our Chinese naval commander has said we are not afraid of fighting any war at our door step. Diao Yu Island is at our door step.

Xapaga

"USA, the real victor in WWII gave the islands unilaterally to Japan in 1971", huh? Chuk, you'll be awarded a gold medal for being a brilliant liar. Apart from that, I'm appalled at Chuk's confidence in a supposed war with the USA. School children across the globe know that China the chicken-hearted has never won a single battle against the West. It's a historical fact. They are even incapable of winning the war against Japan's small-scale navy (by the name of Maritime Self-Defence Force).

Xapaga

Atrocities committed by China's dictatorship have no limits, and they are in the present progressive tense (Ask your nearest branch of the Amnesty International or Hollywood star Richard Gere). Freedom of press is out of the question in China. The mad Maoist-cum-capitalist régime keeps their dirty warfare on humanities secret with the threat of death to decent journalists and intellectuals such as the one who rightly won the Nobel Peace Prize 2010.

Xapaga

In Tibet, the "People's Liberation Army" is king, and they routinely engage in rape, murder, arson, you name it. The Rape of Tibet is far more serious than China's favourite topic of the "Rape of Nanking" (with their fictitous fanciful figure of victims), in that the Tibetan carnage has been there for half a century in Lhasa and beyond. Can you ever trust the Peking régime accusing Japan of wrongdoings? Let us not forget the historical fact that China supported the Pol Pot gang of Cambodia and the recent atrocities in the Sudan.

The Peking bullies will face a plethora of evidence that they are lying to the world and their own population. (1 & 2) In the January 8th 1953 issue of People's Daily published by the regime, they acknowledged the Pinnacle Islands belong to Japan. (3) Map of Japan as part of World Atlas published by Peking regime in 1958 clearly shows the Islands belong to Japan. (4) Senkaku Islands Question explained in English in 2010.
