Prince Akihito arrives

明仁親王（あきひとしんのう, b.1933; 天皇在位1989-2019; 上皇在位2019-）到着

Crown Prince Akihito, 19-year-old heir to the throne of Japan, arrives at Southampton from America on board the Queen Elizabeth. The Prince is to represent his father at the Coronation, but already there have been demonstrations against his visit by British ex-servicemen who suffered while in Japanese hands. Now the Prince makes a statement to the press.

日本の皇位継承者である皇太子明仁親王（19歳）がアメリカから客船クィーン・エリザベス号でサウサンプトン港に到着しました。親王は戴冠式(たいかんしき)に父親の名代(みょうだい)として出席する予定ですが、親王の訪英については日本軍の手で虐待を受けた元軍人たちによる抗議運動が既に繰り広げられています。親王はここで報道陣向けに声明文を読み上げます。

“It is a very great pleasure for me to be invited by Her Majesty the Queen to attend her coronation on behalf of my father, the Emperor. My journey from Japan to this country has been full of new experiences for me. And I’m now looking forward to my stay in Great Britain.”

「私(わたくし)にとりまして大いなる喜びでありますのは、女王陛下に戴冠式(たいかんしき)にご招待いただいたことです。父天皇の名代としてです。日本から貴国までの道のりは私(わたくし)にとりまして新たな経験に満ちておりました。そして今、私(わたくし)は英国での滞在を楽しみにしております。」と。

Soon the Prince will be received by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

まもなく親王はバッキンガム宮殿にて女王の歓待を受けることになります。
