Shalom, dear all!
Thank you for praying faithfully for us. It is almost two weeks since the largest riot ever in Ambunti. The police came late, but they finally came, and the revenge actions of the two big clans were finally put to rest. Thank God for his protection: A week ago, we were informed that someone would come to the construction site where PIM was working to seek revenge. This allowed us to stop in time a temporary worker from coming to work. The next day, many people really came to the construction site with bush knives and they left they were sure that the temporary worker was not found.
I couldn't sleep well for several nights because I was worried about Beverlyn and Jennifer. Douglas talked to me for a long time every night. We both didn't get enough sleep and caught a cold. Then, I started to sleep well after seeing Beverlyn return to Ambunti three days ago. Now our cold has healed. She told me that she and Jennifer took a boat back to their tribal village in the dark on Wednesday morning and received treatment at the PIM clinic in their village. (PIM set up seven medical centers in the middle and upper flow of the Sepik River.) At PIM medical center, the arrow that pierced through her thigh was removed, and the wounds on Jennifer's arm caused by a bush knife were sutured. Although both of them were seriously injured, thank God for protecting them. I saw that Beverlyn's wound is recovering well. However, she has lost sensation in her right calf and foot, and needs us to pray continuously. On the day of the incident, everyone who saw Jennifer's injuries thought she would not survive. Thank God, she is not in danger of death now. Beverlyn and I met and cried with tears of gratitude. Next, Beverlyn will attend the SSEC national conference with her pastor husband, and then return to her tribe. I hope the police can quickly clarify the case, punish the troublemakers, and let the innocent people who have been affected return and rebuild their homes.
During this period, Mrs. Carson went out of town to attend a two-week joint church meeting, so Merolyn was the only student left in the sewing training class in Ambunti. She had completed sewing the donut by herself. So, I let her sew the decoration collar of the choir robe by herself. It was great that she successfully figured out the method by herself, and I just had to teach her how to make the edges and corners exquisite and beautiful. Douglas and I will leave Ambunti on the 23rd and head for Cairns, Australia. When we are not at Ambunti, Merolyn will teach other women how to sew choir robe collars, and will also help me manage sewing resources such as sewing machines, fabrics, zippers, etc..
Ighona, the only new student in this sewing training class, has already taken two classes. I enjoy the 1-1 class, so I can teach and do housework at the same time. She is very nervous and puts a lot of pressure on herself. In fact, she has a strong learning ability and learns quickly, but learning requires stable emotion, a long-term vision, and finding out her own learning advantages in order to learn for long term. I hope God will put heavenly peace in her so that she can experience God's presence through learning and prayer.
“In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength,--- Isaiah 30:15.
At this time when revenge may be imminent, we hope to leave Ambunti on the 23rd by small plane instead of by water or land. This year, the government did not allocate funds for the maintenance of the airstrip. The airstrip in Ambunti was announced closed at the end of last month. Douglas drove the tractor to the airstrip to mow the grass but was stopped by the maintenance contractor. He was told that we had to pay the contractor toll before we were allowed to mow the grass. In fact, the grass had grown to a length that the contractor's large mower could not mow. Thank God for giving Douglas wisdom, so that he could be patient and negotiate a win-win payment method with the other group and the airstrip maintenance contractor. He had already finished the second mowing yesterday. After we leave on the 23rd, the contractor can use their mower to do the third mowing, so that the other group can fly to Ambunti at the end of the month. I am amazed by God’s Presence with Him. How could have Douglas served here for decades without God!
Please remember us in your prayers.
