George Whitaker

George Whitaker (1811-82) was the son of Anne Whitaker of Bratton and nephew of Maria Grace Saffery. He attended school at Frome and then completed his education at Cambridge University, having conformed to the Anglican Church in preparation for the Anglican ministry. He became  vicar at Oakington, Cambridgeshire, where he served from 1840 until 1851. In 1851 he accepted the position as the first Provost of Trinity College (now a part of the University of Toronto), remaining in that position until 1879.
