Benjamin Coxhead

Benjamin Coxhead, Jr. (1772-1851) joined Carter Lane on 1 June 1794 (f. 67). He was set apart for the ministry on 21 May 1798, though he had apparently joined James Douglas in attending Bristol Academy the preceding year. His father, Benjamin Coxhead, Sr., was also a member at Carter Lane and operated a hair-manufactory at 219 Bermondsey Street, Southwark (see Holden’s Directory for 1805, n.p.). Coxhead remained at Bristol through the spring term of 1800, and at the end of October of that year became the successor to Dr. Samuel Stennett (d. 1795) at Little Wild Street, London, remaining there until 1807. He then served Baptist churches at Truro, Cornwall (1807-20) and Winchester, Hampshire (1824-31).
