James Bennett and David Bogue

James Bennett (1774-1862), along with his former tutor David Bogue (1750-1825), were best known for their History of Dissenters, 4 vols (1808-12). An evangelical Calvinist, Bogue operated a ministerial academy at Gosport, with many of his students becoming foreign missionaries in the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Bennett was one of his students, becoming Independent minister at Romsey (1796-1813), at Masbrough (1813-28), then a stint as professor of philosophy at Rotherham College (1813-28), and then as pastor at Silver Street, London (1828-60).
